about us

How We Began

In the 1970s, our grandfather Mr Teo Kim Tee started a small stall in his Adam Road kampung to make and sell Bak Kwa. With zealous passion and relentless efforts, he eventually perfected his own unique, thin and flavoursome Bak Kwa that was well- received among his customers. As word spread and his Bak Kwa grew in popularity, our grandfather established his own brand - New Eastern (Kim Tee) Dried and Minced Pork in 1976, setting up shop at Ang Sar Lee (referring to the distinctive red zinc rooftop shophouses in Serangoon Gardens then)

Continuing The Legacy

Our flagship store remains at its original location, where we have been making and selling our Bak Kwa for nearly 50 years now. Some of our old-time customers even refer to us as the Ang Sar Lee (Serangoon Gardens) Bak Kwa! We are known more commonly as Kim Tee nowadays, a fitting tribute to our founder-grandfather. The first Bak Kwa he created – the Signature Bak Kwa, continues to be our all-time top-seller. Today, you can get the Signature Bak Kwa at all our stores across Singapore or on our website and have it delivered to your doorstep!

Our Beliefs

Despite undergoing a renovation, we choose to preserve our old red zinc rooftop and signboard at our flagship store as a testament to our heritage. Like these artifacts from the yesteryear, we also strive to preserve the original taste and quality of our grandfather’s Bak Kwa by using the same recipe and cooking method that has been passed down for 3 generations. We take pride in seeing customers grow up eating our Bak Kwa with their parents and grandparents and continue to return as adults for the familiar taste and nostalgia. And we hope likewise, their children and grandchildren can also have the same experience.

milestone

A New Milestone

In 2022, Kim Tee was awarded the Singapore Prestige Brand Award in the Heritage category - a prestigious award only given to established home-grown brands with over 25 years of history! We could not have done it without the people - from customers to business partners, who have been with us on our journey from a humble kampung stall in the 1970s to a recognised heritage brand today. Winning this award is an affirmation of the Kim Tee brand and what it stands for. This will motivate us to persevere in the traditional ways of handmaking Bak Kwa passed down from our grandfather to bring you the same nostalgic taste from the olden days.

Our Bakkwa

Our Bakkwa

Char-grilled

Char-grilled

While some may have gone on to mechanize their production and transit to electrical ovens and stoves, we persist in making our Bak Kwa by hand using the traditional way of charcoal barbeque from start to end. Although this is more laborious and skill-dependent, it gives our Bak Kwa the characteristic smoky aroma that is impossible to achieve using electrical means of cooking

Freshly-made

Freshly-made

Each batch of fresh pork meat is carefully inspected for quality. Excess fats are trimmed to keep our Bak Kwa as lean and ‘meaty’ as possible. We do NOT have the practice of adding fats or tenderisers into our minced meat mixture to make the Bak Kwa tender. We also do not use any preservatives in our Bak Kwa.

Aromatic

Coupled with our grandfather’s secret marinade that we blend in-house and traditional charcoal barbeque, not forgetting our Bak Kwa Shifus’ masterful techniques, we are able to produce Bak Kwa that is the perfect blend of smoky, sweet and porky flavours in every single bite

Thinly-sliced

Thinly-sliced

The Signature Bak Kwa and our minced Bak Kwa range are made uniquely and comparatively thinner than other minced Bak Kwa in the market. This gives our Bak Kwa its tender texture that even the elderly and young children can easily enjoy. Our Bak Kwa gets its tender texture from using the right meat cuts, right preparation and right cooking techniques.
